Bitter rivals in high school in Wichita several years ago, Megan Miller and Alden Brown learn of their somewhat parallel lives since when they run into each other in Denver, each, running her/his own vintage toy company, making a pitch to the same department store executive, and both now living in Seattle. They are both in a situation when they each have a family function to attend back in Wichita that evening - the start of a series of functions, for her her younger sister Blair's wedding, and for him his father's retirement celebrations, the big events both in two days - and that flights in and out of Denver are temporarily but indefinitely grounded. Despite the thought of spending confined time together, they make the decision to travel together in whatever alternate mode they can find in believing the option of not making it back to Wichita worse. Their journey ends up being a proverbial "planes, trains and automobiles" as they get into one misadventure after another largely the result of their animosity toward each other. In the process, they downgrade their expectation and hope solely to make it back for the big day, missing the intervening functions out of those misadventures. But in stopping to smell the roses, much like they promote the nature of their vintage toys, they may view their animosity toward each other, and their current competition for the store account, in a different, softer light.—Huggo |
