An injured man crawls into a room and pleads for help for himself and his wife.
After returning from service, Joe Ryder (Vladimir Zaric), his brother Stew (Hans Potter), Joe's girlfriend Sonia (Marisa Crockett), friend Mikey (Chris Walters), and Kyly (Amy Muc) all travel together by vehicle without cellphones for a weekend camping trip in the country. Mikey and Kyly have just had sex. Kyly is concerned how her hair appears before they return to the group. Joe and Stew are arguing about the need for Joe to reveal that he is AWOL from the military. While it should be a pleasant experience, tension between Joe and Stew taints the trip. After their mother's death, Stew believes Joe had not been there while she had been sick due mostly to his military commitments and he feels he suffered alone. This is hard for Joe to hear, and the situation is made worse when each conversation quickly provokes Stew's anger and frustration at Joe.
The strained atmosphere in the car intensifies when the group gets lost. The extra miles have depleted the car's gas and their available options get more are limited. They decide to seek a farmhouse Mikey located on a map. On the way, they come upon an abandoned car on the side of the road with a fair amount of blood nearby. They reach a house with a gas pump that is locked. Inside Joe finds a crime scene with bloody rags, furniture strewn about and the windows boarded up.
Stew and Mikey argue in the car. Stew exits the vehicle and walks past an old car parked on the farm when a zombie sits up in the front seat of it. Stew explores the property including the stable. Mikey searches for something to cut the locks to open the gas pump. Joe goes back inside and calls 911 to report the bloody messes they have encountered. He gets a startling message from the emergency operator. She advises them to stay inside and board up their windows. She claims that there is nothing that can be done with so many dead. Chaos then ensues on the other end of the phone and Joe is cut off. Stew discovers the injured woman in the parked car and opens the door to help. He is bitten in the neck by the rabid like woman who is determined to eat his flesh. What looks like people coming to help simply are more zombies moving slowly toward the group.
The girls scamper quickly to the house. Stew attacks, but Joe and Mikey hold him down. Joe runs and Mikey punches Stew temporarily stunning him, but Stew is soon in pursuit. Stew continues to pound on the door of the house as Joe, Mikey, Sonia and Kyly try to make sense of what they are experiencing. Mikey reveals he cut his hand on Stew's teeth when he punched him. Joe explains that something has happened, and people are dying everywhere. The man's who crawled into the home seeking help is awakening in adjoining room.
A recreation vehicle pulls up and the group thinks it may be their way out. Stew leaps on the RV's windshield. Sonia arms herself with knife. Joe takes a run outside to distract Stew so that Gary (Darren Andrichuk) and Rebecca (Delia Tatiana) from the RV can make it inside. Gary says he has been bitten by one of the fast ones. Joe hides inside the stable. Gary, who is armed, shoots the zombie crawling on the floor in the head.
Gary gives Mikey one of his guns when he decides to go help Joe. Meanwhile, Stew has located Joe and a fight between the two ensues. Mikey finds that Stew has Joe cornered. He calls out to Stew and aims the gun at his head. The gun is a fake and does not fire. Stew begins to devour Mikey's neck and shoulder. Joe grabs a pickaxe and bashes Stew. He tries to help the badly injured Mikey back to the house.
Inside the house, Gary is amazed that the girls know nothing about what has happened in the city. Gary is very sexist and abusive. He hits Rebecca repeatedly and holds a gun to Sonya's head when she argues with him. Rebecca begs him to shoot her as she does not want to live anymore. That distraction allows Sonia the opportunity to plunge the knife in Gary's back.
As Joe tries to get Mikey off the ground, a dozen passers run into the yard. Joe is unable to motivate Mikey and must run. Mikey becomes a food source. Joe takes shelter in the car with the female passer who is not very animated. She is the same zombie that bit Stew. Several zombies trap Joe in the car.
Sonia consoles Rebecca that she no longer needs to be afraid of Gary. Rebecca details the events in the city. She says there was an explosion that she heard but did not see. In the chaos that ensued, Gary pushed her into the RV and they drove away. She saw so many dead people. Gary gets off the floor. He bites Rebecca and then Kyly. Sonia gets into another room and pushes the door shut. Eventually Gary forces the door open. Joe muscles the car door open and makes a run for it. He is pursued by several passers. Badly injured Kyly makes a plea for help. Gary stops his pursuit of Sonia and returns his attention to Kyly's neck. This allows Sonia to lock herself in a bathroom.
Joe makes it to the house just ahead of the chasing passers. He sees the carnage, grabs the gun, and ably shoots Gary, Rebecca and Kyly on successive shots. The hoard of passers finally push through the house's front door. Sonia hears Joe and they meet in the bedroom before Sonia midsection is devoured by an attacking passer. When a helicopter flies over, the passers suddenly head outside and Joe sees Sonia injuries. Despite her pleas to stay, Joe runs out of the room. Exhausted, Joe collapses against the refrigerator.
Joe is awakened by Billy (Al Dales) who is toting a sawed-off shotgun gun. He identifies himself as the homeowner and he blames Joe for letting his family out and getting them killed. He wants to kill Joe in revenge. Joe tells him the passers have an expiration date. He bases this on the fact that the woman in the car who bit Stew is now dead. Just as he is about to be shot, zombie Sonia attacks Billy Then she turns on Joe, but Joe is able to reach his gun and shoot Sonia in the head. Billy begs Joe to kill him before he becomes a passer. He gets a set of keys from his pocket. Joe finds that the shotgun is not loaded. He grabs the handgun and shoots Billy through the head.
Joe takes Billy's keys and stealthily heads outside, unlocks the gas pump and begins to fill a gas can. Zombie Mikey attacks him. When a female zombie attacks as well, Joe is able to free himself, grab the handgun on the ground and shoot them both. He fills up the cannister and fuels his SUV. As he is about to pull away, he sees a woman and a child immerge from an outbuilding among the slow moving passers. He drives the SUV through a gate to rescue them. Sandy (Brooke Walker) and Alley (Aralyn Walker Morrison) are scared. Joe hides the woman and her child in a stall. Most of the passers run right past them but one female zombie discovers them. Joe kills it with repeated pistol whipping. Joe tells Sandy that he will lead them away and then sandy and her daughter should make a run for the SUV. Joe gets the attention of the zombies and leads them to the gas pump. Sandy and Alley make their way to the SUV and drive off. Overwhelmed by their numbers, Joe's last action is to point the gun down into the gas pump and set off a fire explosion.
That night, two men and a woman make their way to the farm where they heard the explosion. One man (Michael Strickland) is armed with a gun while Jesse (Heather Marie Scott) and helps her injured friend Donny (Julian LeBlanc) to the house. As the armed man searches for medication, he comes upon Davey feeding on one of the bodies in the house. |
