A few years after her mother's passing, 17-year old Tennie's (Poema Oleas Mekhitarian) reputation at school takes a major hit before the prom. Tennie although very academically inclined and mature for her age, with compassion for others, has got a touch of sarcasm, and a hint of rebelliousness in her. Tennie just broke up with her boyfriend, Jason Bourne (Shea Foster). Seeking revenge, Jason spreads the rumor that he and Tennie had sex and she was not very good at it. To further complicate the daily rigors of teenage life, her father, Robert Grigorian, (Vahik Pirhamzei), an Armenian born advertising executive who has since rebuilt his business, tries to do the same with his relationship with his daughter. Meanwhile, Robert is being stalked by Jenny (Whitney Ann Jenkins), a woman Robert got acquainted with through a real estate deal and has begun to think of herself as Robert's girlfriend. They all live in Glendale, California.
Her father gets his license suspended because of his drinking and must hire a driver. He is pressured to hire his assistant Daniella's (Mariam Meliksetyan) cousin Jack (Angelo Diona), a 19-year old aspiring actor as his driver for two weeks. They pick up Tennie to show her their new house, which is only one block away from their old house. Tennie is unimpressed. Robert swears Jack to a confidentiality agreement and warns him to stay away from Tennie. Jenny wants Robert to introduce her to Tennie. Robert also learns that Jenny has been seeing a therapist for 14 years. and suggest a family counselor for Robert and Tennie to bring them closer.
Back at home, Robert overhears Tennie reveal to her friend Michelle (Karina Piliguian) that she is only acting in her closeness to her father. She also claims she is closer to her Aunt Melanie (Anahid Avanesian), as they prepare to go to a screening of a new movie. Robert seeks out his sister to learn about Tennie's concerns but other than telling him Tennie is angry, she is uncooperative. The next morning. Robert is playing music and preparing breakfast in the kitchen which is odd behavior. Tennie declines breakfast and hurries out the door. At school, Hamid (Sean Gamboa) who has a crush on Tennie, pledges his support in her battle with ex-boyfriend Jason. Hyper jealous Anna (Tanya Avakian) confronts Tennie about trying to steal her boyfriend Narbeh (Peter Nishan). Meanwhile, at the filming of a commercial, Robert's sister wants to introduce Robert to a woman thinking it is time he began dating again. Melanie is also upset Robert did not wait to show Tennie the new house with her there as he promised.
Jason's car gets keyed. He accused Tennie of the crime at school. Robert meets Tennie in the principal's (Jennifer Earl) office. Not believing Tennie's innocence, Robert pays off the damages. Outside, Hamid confesses to the crime, upset at how Tennie has been treated. Tennie is angry with her father for not believing her. Tennie and her friend Laura (Anna Chart) smoke weed at her pool and talk about attending Berkeley in the fall. Robert, still pretending to care about Jenny to get the house, meet. Jenny suggests Robert put his life on pause and spend all his time with Tennie. Robert is pleased with the suggestion, primarily as a method to avoid Jenny for a while. Jenny further suggests Robert think of their history to find what makes Tennie happy. Robert immediately heads to the BMW dealership to buy Tennie a car.Narbeh confides to Tennie, Laura and Michelle, he wants to break up with Anna, though he has acted like the perfect boyfriend. Then Michelle and Laura have curiosity about Jack. Tennie is called out of art class to the school office where she receives the check her father wrote and was rejected by the Bournes. When Tennie leaves the office, the school marching band comes by and Hamid leaves the formation to talk to Tennie. Tennie is appreciative of his bravery but puts him in the friend zone. When Robert presents Tennie with the BMW, Tennie is again dismissive telling him she prefers Saabs, but Michelle loves the new car. In the end, the girls decide to take Jack for a test drive in Tennie's old car.A very confused Robert requests his assistant Daniela book him an appointment with a family therapist (Silvy Kas). The girls take Jack to restaurant. Tennie gets a text on her phone of Jason with a black eye. Tennie asks Jack if he or her dad is responsible, but he denies everything. Robert consults a therapist who tells him to be more of a father than a friend to Tennie. Against his therapist's advice, overeager Robert tries really hard to get close to Tennie by showing his own way of caring. He tries to find out about his daughter's personal life with the help of his newly appointed driver/intern, Jack.Tennie is on way to Laura's home spend the night. Aunt Melanie interrupts and brings Tennie a gift of an evil eye key chain and a promise to help her buy her prom dress. After Robert follows his daughter to a school play, Tennie blows up at him. Robert decides to hires would be film make Narbeh to make a documentary about Tennie without her knowledge. With encouragement from Anna, Narbeh agrees and Jack presents him with the confidentiality agreement.Meanwhile, Laura, Michelle and Tennie discuss how to handle the obsessive interest Robert has in Tennie's life. The suggest they create a dating profile for her dad. Tennie realizes that in order to get her father off of her back, she needs to convince him to find a lady friend. Tennie spends more time with her dad on a variety of outings to gain his confidence. Then she springs the idea of a dating meet- and-greet on her father. Robert visualizes the disaster before him and is unconvinced.Robert cancels a dinner date with Jenny who seems quite upset. While waiting for her father at his office, Tennie meets Jenny who is dropping off some gifts. Jenny claims to be Robert's girlfriend. Tennie is infuriated and insults Jenny and is appalled by her father not confiding in her about this situation. Jenny storms off but returns and tells Tennie that her father really cares about her and she is the centerpiece of all her decisions.At home, Robert is thrilled he no longer has to deal with Jenny. Tennie apologizes about how she acted in Roberts office. She recalls how her father was about to leave just before her mother got sick, and now he is stuck with her. He convinces Robert to go to dinner with Jenny to smooth things. At dinner, Jenny's husband's associates arrive to bring Jenny to her husband's birthday party just as a violinist Tennie has hired plays for the couple. Robert finally has an escape from Jenny. She is still married.Back at home, Robert confides how he really feels about Jenny to Tennie. He treated her well just for the sake of the real estate deal. Then Tennie learns that Robert is having Narbeh create a documentary of her life from a voice mail message. In retaliation, Tennie throws a party at the house with almost half of the school showing up while her father is supposed to be out of town. At the party, Tennie gets very intoxicated and dismisses all her friends who participated in the documentary. Robert arrives at the party unexpectedly after an airport delay. A very upset Tennie tells him this is what betrayal looks like.Tennie moves in with her aunt and ignores Narbeh at school. Robert fires Jack for bringing alcohol into his house for the party. Anna apologizes to Tennie saying Tennie should blame her and not Narbeh for making the documentary and gives her a copy. Laura encourages her to view the video which paints Tennie as a caring but spoiled girl. Laura admits to Tennie that she is a lesbian, Laura says that much like Tennie, she acts like someone she is not. Michelle sends Tennie a video of Robert in a confrontation with Jason who is trying to further ruin Tennie's reputation, but her father defends her saying the only one he is going to believe is his daughter.Robert visits the family therapist again and is now willing to be vulnerable. Robert finds Tennie at Laura's house and they have a heart to heart talk about Tennie mother, his drinking and his fear of losing his daughter. He promises to trust his daughter and do better. Tennie asks her father to ask Jack to take her to prom. Robert finds Jack in an acting class.On the night of the prom, Tennie's friends pull up in a stretch limo but Jack has a convertible Saab for himself and Tennie. Tennie hugs her father and tells him she makes him happy before she leaves with Jack. |

Against his therapist's advice, overeager Robert tries really hard to get close to Tennie by showing his own way of caring. He tries to find out about his daughter's personal life with the help of his newly appointed, 19 year-old driver/intern, Jack. Practically being raised by her extended family, Tennie although very academically inclined and mature for her age, with compassion for others, she's got a touch of sarcasm, and a hint of rebelliousness. After she catches on to her father's plan, Tennie realizes that in order to get her father off of her back, she needs to convince him to find a lady friend. She recruits her friends to create an online dating profile in order to introduce her father to potential companions. Little did she know that her father already was seeing someone that he was not yet ready to introduce to her. Things escalate when Robert gets Tennie's friends from school to participate in a focus group for a project, and in retaliation, Tennie throws a party at the house with almost half of the school showing up. A series of hilarious interactions between father and daughter ensues that starts to close the generational gap between them. What finally brings them together is a long overdue heart to heart conversation about past transgressions. One thing becomes certain, they will always have each other. |
