Textbook in PDF format This book carries the entire content—including hundreds of worked problems and examinations (the exams, without solutions, are available online)—of a stand-alone course in special and general relativity that I taught a half dozen times at the University of Illinois. The course is usually taken by undergraduate physics majors during their third semester. It is, to my mind, the first time our students see why those of us who have made a career of physics did so. It opens their eyes to the hallucinatory strangeness of physical reality
